National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 27th, 2024. This is an important annual event that addresses prescription drug misuse prevention. This initiative encourages individuals to safely dispose of unused or expired medications, preventing them from being misused or harming the environment. Many individuals have unused medications sitting in their homes, which can pose many risks if not disposed of properly. These risks include:
- Accidental ingestion by children or pets
- Misuse by family members or visitors
- Environmental contamination if flushed down the drain or thrown in the trash
Prescription Take Back Day provides a safe and convenient solution to these problems. On April 27th, from 10 am - 2 pm, there will be designated drop-off locations where community members can anonymously dispose of their unused medications in Addison County, including:
- Addison County Sheriff’s Dept: 35 Court St, Middlebury
- Bristol Police Department: 72 Munsill Ave, Bristol
- Middlebury Police Department: 1 Lucius Shaw Lane, Middlebury
- Vergennes Police Department: 8 Main Street, Vergennes
Participating in Take Back Day allows individuals to protect themselves, their families, and their communities. Properly disposed of medications reduces the risk of addiction, overdose, and other adverse outcomes. This also protects the environment by allowing these medications to be properly disposed of instead of ending up in landfills or waterways.
If you cannot drop off in person on April 27th, you can request a free medication mail-back envelope using this link!
