As we recognize National Prevention Week, we are reminded that prevention starts with education, connection, and community action. At the Turning Point Center of Addison County, this mission is not just a weeklong commitment—it’s the foundation of everything we do.
A Safe Haven for Recovery
For over 18 years, the Center has provided a safe, non-judgmental environment where people at all stages of recovery are welcomed with compassion. The Center offers support, recovery coaching, wellness groups, and a variety of community-based services—all at no cost.
Whether someone is just beginning their recovery journey or has years of sobriety behind them, Turning Point is a place where individuals can come as they are and receive the respect, support, and resources they deserve.
Community-Led, Peer-Supported
What makes Turning Point so unique is its peer-led model. Staff and volunteers often have lived experience with recovery themselves, allowing them to connect deeply and authentically with the individuals they serve. The shared understanding creates a space of empathy and empowerment, fostering strong bonds and a renewed sense of purpose.
We know recovery isn’t linear, and we’re here for the good days, the hard days, and everything in between.
Programs That Make a Difference
The Center’s offerings are as diverse as the community it serves. Programs include:
- Peer mentoring and recovery coaching for youth and adults
- Family support programs to help loved ones understand addiction and find healing
- Collaboration with local schools and coalitions to deliver prevention-focused education
- Workshops on coping skills, mental health, and substance-free living
- Community events that promote connection, purpose, and wellness
Additionally, Turning Point works closely with local organizations, treatment centers, and law enforcement to provide wraparound services and continuity of care.
Why Community Support Matters
Now more than ever, we need to stand together and invest in solutions that prevent the cycle of addiction before it begins. Whether you're a parent, teacher, neighbor, or employer, you play a role in shaping a healthier future.
This Prevention Week, we invite you to:
- Start conversations with your loved ones about substance use and mental health
- Attend or host a community event that fosters healthy, drug-free environments
- Support local organizations—like Turning Point—that are doing this critical work year-round
- Volunteer your time or skills to help us expand our outreach
Recovery Happens Here
The Turning Point Center of Addison County is more than a building—it’s a movement. It’s a testament to what’s possible when a community comes together to support healing and transformation. Every story shared, every hand held, every goal reached is a reminder: recovery is real, and no one has to walk the journey alone.
