According to the 2016/2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, Vermont drug and alcohol use among 18-25-year-olds, ranked the state #1 in illicit drug use (past 30 days), #1 in marijuana use (past year), #1 cocaine use (past year), #1 in alcohol use (past 30 days), #3 in binge alcohol use (30 days), and #2 in marijuana use (past year). In 2019 the survey ranked past month marijuana use among Vermont adolescents (12-17 yrs old) higher than the regional (10.8%) and the national average (6.8%) with a reported 14.5%. Our goal is to reduce these numbers, understanding that if we do, we’ll see positive outcomes in the health, education, and financial stability of every person in Addison County!
Communities who work collaboratively at prioritizing public health and who implement policies that promote wellness and safety are more likely to see a decrease in youth substance use, an increase in perceived risks of adolescent drug use, and an increased likelihood of positive outcomes.
